General Information

Popira Drum Master (たいこでポピラ lit. Taiko de Popira, commonly called たいこのポピラ, lit. Taiko no Popira) was released in 2003 by TAKARA.

Anyone can easily play by simply connecting it to a television. It's a music game where the image of a ball falling on the screen bounces off the drum body, and you have to hit with a yellow bachi. The main game has 11 original songs of different genres such as wadaiko, pop music, rock, samba, enka, ethnic, etc. The game also has keysounds depending on the song, which changes when you hit the drums depending on the choice of music. Some are japanese taiko drums, snare drums, ethnic drums etc. Using the device is easy, when you turn on the power, all menus and operations can be selected by hitting the drum with the bachi.

There are 4 modes you can play: Story Mode, Battle Mode, Free Play Mode, and Practice Mode. Story Mode is a new mode exclusive to this game that has not appeared in the Popira series until now. It's a journey of training to master the drum master songs. You can master songs of various genres while advancing the game according to the story and interacting with characters you meet as you play the game. Battle Mode allows you to play against a CPU or two players. You can now play with 2 players at the same time, using a single controller! Free Play Mode can be selected according to the song and three levels can be played; easy medium and hard. Practice mode allows even first time players to enjoy the game with peace of mind, and it is content that can be enjoyed from beginners to senior citizens. You can also use the game cartridge 'dream' which was released on September 29th 2003, to increase the number of songs, so you can enjoy the game for longer without getting bored. Taiko de Popira can be enjoyed regardless of age, gender or status, with the fun of the feeling and the rhythm of hitting the taiko drum according to the music, and the ease of playing just by connecting it to the tv, using a composite video cable.

Songlist

Note: None of these songs have artists credited to them. Also, do keep in mind inserting an expansion cartridge prior to turning the system on will hide every default song until you play without an expansion cartridge.
